In helping you hear better, it’s sometimes the little things that make us happy. Like the smile on a patient’s face when they hear their insulin pump for the first time!
You may know that November is #diabetesawareness month. Did you know that hearing loss is twice as common in people with diabetes as it is in those who don’t have the disease? Even those with pre-diabetes have a 30% higher rate of hearing loss compared to those with normal blood glucose levels.
High blood glucose levels associated with diabetes can cause damage to the small blood vessels in the inner ear, similar to the way in which diabetes can damage the eyes and the kidneys. If you have diabetes, or are pre-diabetic, monitoring your hearing levels is important.
