Before recommending hearing aids, we complete a comprehensive hearing evaluation to determine the type and degree of hearing loss and how it affects communication.

Testing may include cleaning and examination of the ear canals, measurement of hearing sensitivity, speech-understanding testing, and assessment of listening ability in background noise. We may also perform a neurocognitive screening, as indicated, to assess processing functions of the brain.

These results help us determine whether hearing aids are appropriate and identify factors that may influence the choice of technology, programming, and expected benefit.

When findings suggest that medical evaluation is needed, we will recommend consultation with an appropriate physician or ear, nose, and throat specialist.

Two people with similar hearing-test results may have very different listening needs. We take time to discuss the situations in which you are having difficulty, such as conversations with family, meetings, restaurants, television, telephone use, music, travel, or large group settings.

We also consider your lifestyle, dexterity, vision, technology comfort, cosmetic preferences, tinnitus symptoms, and budget. This conversation allows us to recommend hearing solutions based on your daily life rather than relying on the audiogram alone.

Your audiologist will explain appropriate styles, technology levels, rechargeable options, connectivity features, accessories, and other considerations. Recommendations may include receiver-in-canal, behind-the-ear, custom in-the-ear, CROS, or BiCROS systems, depending on the hearing evaluation and your individual needs.

Our goal is not simply to select the newest or most expensive device. It is to identify technology that is clinically appropriate, practical for your lifestyle, and capable of supporting the listening situations that matter most to you.

At the fitting appointment, your hearing aids are programmed using your hearing-test results and individualized prescription targets. We also evaluate the physical fit, comfort, retention, and ease of insertion and removal.

Your audiologist will review device operation, charging or battery use, cleaning, maintenance, telephone connectivity, and any relevant mobile applications or accessories. Settings are adjusted to provide useful access to speech while maintaining comfort as you begin adapting to amplified sound.

Manufacturer programming software provides a useful starting point, but it cannot account fully for the individual acoustics of your ears. For that reason, we use real-ear measurements to verify the sound delivered by the hearing aids while they are worn in your ears.

During this procedure, a small microphone is placed in the ear canal alongside the hearing aid. We then measure the hearing aid’s response to speech-like signals and compare it with evidence-based fitting targets.

Real-ear verification allows us to confirm that soft, average, and louder speech sounds are appropriately audible and comfortable. It also helps us make precise adjustments rather than relying only on manufacturer estimates or subjective impressions.

Verification confirms what the hearing aids are delivering. Validation helps determine whether they are improving communication and meeting your needs.

We may use questionnaires, speech testing, listening-in-noise measures, and your real-world observations to evaluate benefit. We will also discuss realistic expectations, communication strategies, and the normal adaptation process that occurs as the brain becomes reacquainted with sounds that may not have been heard clearly for some time.

Hearing aids do not restore normal hearing or eliminate every listening difficulty. However, a carefully selected and properly verified fitting can significantly improve access to speech, environmental awareness, and communication in many everyday situations.

Hearing care does not end when the devices are delivered. Follow-up appointments allow us to review your experience, address questions, assess comfort and sound quality, and make adjustments based on your daily listening environments.

Fine-tuning may include changes to amplification, noise-management settings, directional microphones, telephone streaming, tinnitus-support features, or specialized listening programs. We also provide counseling on communication strategies, device care, and effective use of accessories when appropriate.

Ongoing maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, and periodic hearing evaluations help ensure that your hearing aids continue to perform appropriately as your needs or hearing change.
